Greatness
Ever seen this image or video of the PlayStation 4/PS4, proclaiming that greatness awaits? Now that "greatness" is here, what is greatness?
For the PS4, it is a means for Sony to compete in the gaming industry, and it must constantly improve and create another greatness (the PS5). It seems to me, then, that greatness is something disposable; something you throw away in a few years.
This isn't what greatness is, or will ever be. Greatness isn't a temporary thing.
Look at the things you have (physical and material), look at the amount of money you have, and look at your most valuable collections. Think honestly about those and ask yourself: will I have these things forever?
We probably answered no, and acknowledge that these things are just things. We can give them away, they may get stolen, or an earthquake can destroy them. The end message is that they're just things.
Now think about yourself and ask if you are like your possessions. Will you live forever, or will you not live forever? What will happen to you when we breathe our last breath? And when will that be?
As much as we worry about when we're going to leave this world, there is great news. You don't have to worry about when you will leave, by simply believing what God is sharing with you.
He is telling you that you aren't a thing, that unlike things you can live forever. You are a human being, made in His very image, woven in the womb with the perfect details, known by the One who made you, and ultimately prepared for greatness.
Too often we make ourselves great by the things we do. When we make ourselves known by the things we do, we will end up being history. There will always be someone who is better at what you can do, and will replace you as the next great thing. By constantly trying to make ourselves great, we will always find and be replaced by somebody greater. It is a never-ending cycle in the pursuit of greatness that won't last forever.
Greatness is achieved by accepting that we are not meant to be god of our lives. It is knowing that we have fallen short before the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and realizing that we are sinners. This means that every The sins we commit must be paid, for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
That reason, is to know who God is and to know His love for us as His children. The love of sending His one and only begotten Son, sending Himself as Jesus Christ, to receive the punishment that mankind deserved. Jesus was punished so that all that all the evil we have done would be forgotten.
We live with too many regrets, but Jesus came so you can live life anew and free. This is greatness, it's free and eternal.
If you would like to start anew and receive God's love and forgiveness, pray this with me in your heart:
God, for too long I have tried to make myself great. I only ended up being replaced by something else.
But today, I want to tell you that I want no more of that. From today, I want to live my life with you.
I want to achieve real greatness, to know you. I know you have given me a purpose, and I want to live to see what it is.
I declare that I am not worthless, all because of you.
I invite you to come into my heart and let Jesus be my light. Let me start my life with you. Help me achieve greatness.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
